*Earn while you learn
It means exactly what it says: Learn a new career in the finishing trades and get paid for it!
That might sound too good to be true — but as an apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds. And, demand for new apprentices in a booming construction industry is high.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in labor economics and statistics, the outlook for employment in the construction industry is bright:
- The number of wage and salary jobs in the construction industry is expected to grow 10 percent through the year 2016.
- Earnings in construction are higher than the average for all industries.
- And, in general, union workers are paid more than nonunion workers and have better benefits.
In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in a recent study that union construction workers earn, on average, 24 percent more than their non-union counterparts on a weekly basis. That can mean a difference of hundreds of dollars per week!
