Apprenticeships are high quality, work-based training programs for those who want to develop a rewarding career.  And, an apprenticeship gives you the chance to earn while you learn!*
When you decide to take up an apprenticeship, you will:

  • Earn real wages
  • Gain new knowledge and key skills

First you’ll need to decide which IUPAT career suits you best.

*Earn while you learn
It means exactly what it says:  Learn a new career in the finishing trades and get paid for it!
That might sound too good to be true — but as an apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds.  And, demand for new apprentices in a booming construction industry is high.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in labor economics and statistics, the outlook for employment in the construction industry is bright:

  1. The number of wage and salary jobs in the construction industry is expected to grow 10 percent through the year 2016.
  2. Earnings in construction are higher than the average for all industries.
  3. And, in general, union workers are paid more than nonunion workers and have better benefits.
In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in a recent study that union construction workers earn, on average, 24 percent more than their non-union counterparts on a weekly basis.  That can mean a difference of hundreds of dollars per week!
